Environmental geochemistry evaluation of wastewater in different paper factory units by factor analysis method (case study)

Abstract

Ahvaz paper industry is one of the most important polluting industries in Khuzestan, which causes many problems, if it is not treated and discharged into the environment. The high intensity of pollution in the pulp and chemical units of Ahvaz factory has produced brown to black wastewater, which has complicated the treatment process. In order to determine the quality of Ahvaz paper in pollutant units and the role of pollutant variables in the final wastewater of the plant, it calculated 13 physical, chemical and biological pollutant variables in 26 samples of wastewater of different units. The final wastewater were compared with agricultural water quality standard in Iran. Variables such as soluble solids, suspended solids, alkalinity, COD, BOD and turbidity with values of 1630, 820, 343, 2452, 316 and 106 mg / L, respectively, were more than from the agricultural water standard in the final wastewater. The paper machine unit and the chemical production unit were effective in increasing the soluble, suspended solids, alkalinity and turbidity of the solids. Pulp unite and baggase dewatering unit were effective in increasing the chemical and BOD in the final wastewater compound. Therefore, it is necessary to build a combined physical, chemical and biological treatment plant in order to remove the final wastewater pollutants and to modify and standardize agricultural water in Ahvaz paper factory.
